Wynn Resorts Awarded UAE Commercial Gaming License

Wynn Resorts, the global casino and entertainment resort provider, has been issued a commercial land-based casino gaming license to operate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the regulator in the region.

This is the first gaming license issued by the GCGRA which is preparing to introduce regulated gambling into the region. The plan is to allow gambling as part of the tourist industry in designated areas as gambling is strictly prohibited in the Muslim religion.

The Wynn Al Marjan Island Resort is under construction in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), UAE, and the project sees Wynn as part of a joint venture that also includes Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding.

The casino resort is due to open its doors to the public and guests in 2027.

Marjan has a reputation as a master developer and has been tasked with transforming the man-made location into a world-leading destination for gaming and entertainment for tourists. The Wynn Al Marjan Island Resort is estimated to cost $3.9 billion is situated less than an hour from Dubai International Airport, and will contain a dedicated gaming floor.

The facilities at the resorts will include luxury hotels with more than 1,500 rooms for guests, including 22 luxury Villa estates adjoining the resort. There will also be multiple swimming pools and leisure activities, with over 20 dining options, including restaurants, lounges, and bar experiences.

The Wynn Resorts casino project in Ras Al Khaimah has faced issues over the last year, but the group is optimistic about the future of gaming in the region.
