Virginia's Newest Casino Resort Now Under Construction
Bruce Smith Enterprise and The Cordish Companies have officially commenced construction on Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia, their $1.5 billion flagship project in Petersburg.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The milestone was commemorated with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, March 19, attended by executives from Bruce Smith Enterprise, The Cordish Companies, Petersburg City Mayor Sam Parham, and members of the Petersburg City Council. State officials like Virginia State Senator Lashrecse Aird and Delegate Kim Taylor also graced the event.
Scheduled to open in 2027, Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia will feature a world-class 450,000-square-foot complex housing 1,600 slot machines, 65 table games, 10 dining and entertainment venues, and a state-of-the-art sportsbook.
The project's amenities will also include a 200-room hotel and a 4,000-seat venue designed to host top regional and national acts in music, comedy, and more.
Within its first decade, the development is expected to generate $2.8 billion for the regional economy, $802 million in construction benefits, and 7,500 new jobs, including 6,100 construction positions and 1,400 permanent roles.

For far too long people have simply driven by the City of Petersburg, but today marks the beginning of a new era in which Petersburg will become a prime destination. Temporary Resort to Open Late 2025
Before the main resort launches, a temporary gaming facility will open by the end of this year. This venue will span 75,000 feet and offer 900 slots, 33 live table games, dining options, and parking for 1,000 vehicles.
The temporary facility is projected to create around 500 new jobs, promote local vendor partnerships, and bring economic benefits to the city.
Once complete, Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia will be the latest addition to The Cordish Companies' family of entertainment and gaming destinations, which includes Live! Casino Pittsburgh, Live! Casino Louisiana, and Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia.
