Vietnam's Corona Casino Won't Permit Local Gambling in the New Year
Corona Resort & Casino in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, has announced that it will temporarily halt access for Vietnamese citizens to its gaming facilities starting January 1, 2025. The decision, described as being in compliance with existing legal requirements, was confirmed in a notice published on the company's website.

The operator stated its intention to resume operations to serve all customer segments fully once the necessary adjustments have been made in compliance with the regulatory framework. Corona Resort & Casino underscored its goal of continuing to deliver value to its customers and partners in the long term.
The suspension comes in the wake of the Vietnamese government's issuance of Decree 145/2024/ND-CP on November 4, 2024, which amended a key provision of Decree 03/2017/ND-CP. This amendment pertains to the country's pilot scheme allowing Vietnamese citizens to gamble at select casinos.
Under the original decree, local players were permitted to access designated casinos approved by the authorities for a trial period of three years. For casinos that were among the initial participants in the program, this pilot scheme is set to expire on December 31, 2024. Casinos approved subsequently under the pilot scheme are permitted to operate for three years from the date of their Certificate of Eligibility for Casino Business.

The decision to suspend local access comes as the pilot scheme reaches a critical juncture, with regulatory revisions expected to shape the future of gambling policies in Vietnam.
