Tropicana Las Vegas Imploded in Dazzling Fireworks Display
At approximately 2:30 am PST this morning, Wednesday, 9th October, the Tropicana Las Vegas met its dramatic end as it was demolished in a highly anticipated implosion.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The iconic Tropicana venue, which first opened its doors in 1957, was reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds, marking the end of a 67-year chapter in Las Vegas history. In true Vegas style, the event was not just a demolition, but a visual spectacle featuring 555 drones and a fireworks display that was watched around the world via a livestream.
Seven Minutes of Fireworks Before the Big Bang
The show began with a seven-minute display of fireworks and drones. During the display, the drones could be seen forming the Tropicana logo in the air as well as that of Bally’s Corporation and Oakland Athletics.
Just before the implosion, the drones formed the shape of a detonator in the sky, complete with a countdown from 10 seconds. The lever was then depressed, and the implosion began. An impressive 1,620 pounds of explosives were used to bring down the 23-story Paradise Tower and the Club Tower in just over 20 seconds, leaving behind a thick cloud of dust that enveloped the area.
As the dust settled, the Bally’s and Oakland Athletics logos were once again formed by the drones and could be seen emerging from the mist as applause rang out below.

The End of a Vegas Era
The closure of Tropicana Las Vegas earlier this year was already seen as the end of an era, with the resort long considered a symbol of Las Vegas’ golden age. Known as the “Tiffany of the Strip” during its prime, the Tropicana attracted legendary performers such as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. It also had early ties to organized crime, which added to its status as a legendary Vegas venue. Despite renovations over the decades, the property retained much of its vintage charm, offering a blend of classic Las Vegas glamour with modern amenities.
However, Vegas is not a city known for looking backwards and with the implosion over, thoughts are firmly focused on the future. The site will become home to a 33,000-seat stadium for the Oakland Athletics as the city continues its work to expand beyond casino entertainment. In addition to the stadium, Bally's Corporation plans to develop a new resort on the remaining land, further transforming the area into a hub for sports and entertainment.
It's fitting that this iconic site now represents the future of Las Vegas as we look forward to welcoming Major League Baseball, the Athletics, and an exciting new entertainment complex.
