Three Million People Set to Bet on Euro 2020 with Entain
Entain (LON: ENT) has said that it expects more than three million people in Europe to bet on the Euro 2020 tournament, roughly double the number of people who bet on the 2018 World Cup.
According to the operator, so far, UK customers have placed the largest amount of bets, and almost half of UK punters have bet on France to win the tournament, which began on Friday 11 June.
Entain’s global database shows that in bets placed by roughly 1.5 million customers between January and May this year, France attracted the largest number of bets to win the tournament, 28%. France is followed by England and Belgium at 20% and 12% respectively.
Of all the bets placed by bettors in all countries, 47% are on which country will win the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament followed by 15% on which player will win the Golden Boot award. In the UK, 23% on punters have backed Harry Kane to be the top goal scorer, just ahead of Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku (22%).
The database also shows that punters in smaller European nations are more likely to bet on their national team than those in larger countries. For the first time in an event this size, Entain will be hosting almost all customer activity across its European brands on in-house technology. According to the company, this will allow it to gain “a unique insight into the expectations and betting behaviours of fans across the majority of countries taking part in the tournament, which it can then use to tailor its offers and their experiences accordingly.”
Most betting will be after the tournament starts, and we expect to see roughly twice as many fans placing bets on the Euros as in the last World Cup, reflecting the growth of our business in the past three years. With offers across most countries taking part we’re perfectly placed to offer fans exciting experiences.
