The Washington Football Team Has Backed Responsible Sports Betting with AGA
The first of the NFL’s franchises has joined with the American Gaming Association (AGA) in order to promote responsible gambling in the United States. The Washington Football Team (WFT) has readily promoted the “Have a Game Plan. Bet Responsibly” campaign that the AGA is responsible for creating.
While the WFT is the first of the NFL teams to back the responsible gambling movement in the USA, various other sports sectors have done so beforehand. The NHL, UFC, NASCAR, and PGA Tour have also united with the AGA for the campaign. This offers bettors a plan of four steps to follow that will supposedly keep their gambling activity under control. At the same time, details of the National Council on Problem Gambling and its 24-hour manned phone lines are given.
The partnership has been responsible for some criticism towards the Washington team, though. Professional gambler ‘Captain Jack Andrews’ took to his Twitter account and opined that the WFT had proceeded to make what he defined as a “crucial misstep”. He pointed out that it would be much more reliable of the football team to join with the National Council on Problem Gambling directly, rather than the “lobbying arm of the casinos”.
“With legal sports betting now permitted across our region, we are ensuring responsible gaming serves as a foundation for how we engage in this exciting commercial market”, said Scott Shepherd, speaking as the football team’s Chief Partnership Officer.
And in response to the criticism that the WFT has received in relation to its decision to unite with the AGA, Casey Clark had something to say. Operating as the Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications for the AGA, he mentioned that he thought it would be “irresponsible” if his organisation didn’t do anything to help educate the customers on responsible gambling.
“Americans have a greater opportunity to bet legally, and I think the industry has an opportunity to ensure that people understand how to do it responsibly”, he said.
