TFF to Fine Turkish Clubs for Promoting Illegal Betting Adverts
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF), the sports governing body in the region, has announced strict new rules to prohibit illegal betting advertisements in the Turkish Super League, the country’s top flight football competition.

The regulator outlined a series of progressive steps it will enforce against clubs in the Turkish Super League that breach these new guidelines and will include financial penalties or ultimately league points deducted from clubs that transgress the legislation.
In the statement the TTF pointed out that the new advertising framework doesn’t just affect clubs in the Super League but also includes related organizations, including media outlets, billboards in the vicinity and other club affiliates.
This new set of guidelines on advertising comes against a backdrop of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime reporting the global illegal gambling black market is estimated to be valued at worth at $1.8 trillion. Turkey is thought to be responsible for over 100 billion Turkish liras of the worldwide total.
It is forbidden to promote or advertise betting organizations not licensed by competent authorities, This includes any media, billboards and other equipment used within stadium.

Details of the Penalty Structure of the TTF’s New Rules
In its bid to combat illegal promotions within the Turkish Super League the TTF stated there will be tiered system of penalties and fines with the purpose of enforcing new advertising framework in the football league.
Firstly when a club is found to have breached the promotion and advertising rules laid out by the TTF there will be a fine of 2 million Turkish Liras ($58,000) for the first violation.
For continued breaches of these new rules, the TTF will initiate a second level of penalties, which include a 5 million Turkish Liras fine. A third violation will see Turkish clubs receive an increased fine of 10 million Turkish Liras.
The top level of fines is reserved for clubs and organizations in Turkish football that are deemed tb be persisitently breaching TTF guidelines and carry on with their behaviour despite sanctions issued after lower level penalties. It will see clubs levied with a penalty of a further 10 million Turkish Liras and an additional three point deduction from their league total.
The TTF hopes the introduction of this range of penalties will send a clear message to organizations in the Turkish Super League that the regulator is taking a firm stance against unauthorized adverting and promotions at top flight clubs in the country.
Recently a Turkish MP warned illegal gambling in the country was posing a threat of gambling addiction to the youth in the region.
