Stevin ‘Hedake’ Smith Joins EPIC to Raise Gambling Harm Awareness
EPIC Global Solutions, the organization dedicated to safer gambling, has announced disgraced former basketball star Stevin ‘Hedake’ Smith has joined the company to promote gambling harm awareness.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Smith was a promising player at Arizona State University and had set several records while at college. He gained notoriety for the gambling-related scandal when he was exposed to a professional gambler and persuaded to shave points off a college basketball. Essentially he was paid by the gambler to miss some shots. However, he was caught following an alert by sportsbook operators.
Prison followed for the college athlete, he was handed a one-year sentence, and this effectively ended any prospects of a potentially successful NBA career. He joins EPIC and is well-placed to speak to young adults on the risks and potential harms that involvement with gambling can have on a student's career.
I’m passionate about wanting to tell my story and get out there to prevent this from happening again, I’ve been able to tell my story to players previously and I’m able to have a relationship with all of them in the audience because of the way I deliver my message and coming from one big fraternity in sport. Knowing that EPIC has a global reach is something that really stood out to me about this opportunity and I’m passionate about getting out there and speaking about my experience.

Stevin Smith joins a handful of representatives at the EPIC organization who bring lived experience to the subject they are speaking on. Therefore speakers who represent EPIC have an in-depth understanding and experience of the mistakes and pitfalls that face the audience they are addressing.
