Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), has announced a collaboration with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the betting monitoring body, that will see both organizations sharing betting information with each other.

Under the terms of the deal, both parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for sports betting, and this will see the IBIA and Spelinspektionen monitor any suspicious betting activities in Swedish sports and share this information with each organization.

The SGA and IBIA state that this exchange of sports betting information and suspicious betting patterns will help Sweden demonstrate that sports in the country have the highest integrity.

IBIA Represents Majority of SGA Licensed Operators

Due to many partnerships in the last two years, the IBIA has a membership of more than 50 companies covers the leading global sports and has become the largest company that monitors sports betting activity worldwide.

It is estimated that the IBIA already represents the majority of the SGA-licensed betting market, which equates to a sports betting GGR figure valued at SEK4,690 million in 2022.

IBIA is delighted to have reached this agreement with the Swedish Gambling Authority. The association is focused on working closely with the SGA to maintain the integrity of Swedish sports and the regulated betting market. IBIA will utilize its global customer account transaction data to identify and report suspicious betting on Swedish sporting events to the SGA and engage in any related investigatory actions. Maintaining the integrity of the market is of paramount importance.

Swedish Government to Amend Compliance Legislation

The Swedish Government has acknowledged it will have to amend gambling legislation in the jurisdiction to accommodate the MoU and will change the country's Gambling Ordinance so that Sweden is compliant with conventions that allow the country to share information based on Swedish sports.

It is very important to us that information is shared regarding suspicious betting activity in order to maintain the integrity of sports. Therefore, we are delighted to have reached this agreement with IBIA which will be beneficial to our coordination of the national platform and general work against match-fixing. We look forward to our cooperation with IBIA.
