Sönke Martens Steps Down as Zeal Group’s COO
Online lottery operator Zeal Group has announced the exit of Sönke Martens as its Chief Commercial Officer.
The development follows Martens decision to not renew his board contract that is due to expire at the end of June 2024.
Martens joined Zeal in 2014 and has worked various several segments of the company including its eSailors segment, Lotto24 and Tipp24. He was appointed into his current COO role in July 2021. Before getting employed at Zeal, Martens served in a real estate venture he founded Loftville.com, and at top companies like XING, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and HSH Nordbank.

Three-Member Leadership Board
With Martens exit from Zeal, the firm’s executive board is now reduced to three members, comprising CEO Helmut Becker, new Chief Financial Officer Sebastian Bielski and Chief Technology Officer Paul Dingwitz.
On behalf of the entire executive board I would like to extend my gratitude and best wishes to Sönke for his passion and start-up spirit he brought to the company. Only this year, he and his team successfully launched the biggest marketing campaign in the history of Lotto24. Under his leadership Zeal tripled billings in the core business, successfully integrated the Lotto24 and Tipp24 businesses and achieved a significant improvement in customer lifetime values and the way we win new customers. We regret his decision to leave Zeal and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities outside of Zeal. We wish him the best for the future.
Martens Exit Follows Mattson’s Departure
Martens departure comes after former CFO Jonas Mattson also chose not to extend his tenure and officially stepped down on September 30.
At that time, Mattson claimed he was leaving the business to spend more time with his family. His replacement was Bielski, who previously served solar power business Energiekonzepte Deutschland in the same role since December 2022.
