Slotegrator Analyses the Asian Gambling Market
Asia is home to several well-established gambling markets as well as a number that look set to flourish and Slotegrator, the iGaming technology supplier, has just published an analysis of the region’s gambling industry.
The Asian Racing Federation says that more than 50% of the region’s gambling takes place in the gray market and that Asian players are happy to travel to visit gambling venues. Many Asian countries are actively working to liberalize the market, including Thailand, Vietnam, and some Indian states.
Georgia saw its gambling industry grow by 23% in 2020, making it the only part of the nation’s economy that did not decline during the pandemic. However, as the market grows, authorities have introduced a number of new restrictions such as a minimum age of 25.
Turkey’s gambling industry is carefully regulated but the country’s law does allow for sports betting, horseracing, chance games, lotteries, number games, and instant wins games. Confusingly though, each game is regulated by a different authority.
The Armenian gambling market looks ready to thrive. The percentage of gamblers in the country is six times higher than that of the UK, which is by far the largest market in Europe.
Kazakhstan has started attracting large number of gambling tourists from China and Russia, while in Japan punters are betting around $40 billion a year at sportsbooks. However, it is China that takes the lead with gamblers spending roughly $145.5 billion on online gambling each year.
