Rush Gaming's Loses Authorization from Malta Gaming Authority

Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced the cancellation of Rush Gaming's gambling license in Malta. Although the reasons were not expressly stated, judging from precedents, Rush Gaming’s authorization was likely suspended because it had failed to comply with one or more applicable obligations outlined in regulatory instruments or other applicable laws in Malta.

The authorization suspension was implemented under the provisions of reg. 8 (1) (f) of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations. The sanction will be enforced in alignment with reg. 9 (1) (c) of the Regulations. Rush Gaming can appeal the suspension based on the conditions outlined in Article 43 of the iGaming Act.

Although Rush Gaming can no longer conduct gaming activities in the state, it is obligated to ensure that players retain access to their accounts and refund any owed funds to them. With the development, Rush Gaming became the first company to have its operations deauthorized in the jurisdiction in 2024. The business joins the rank of companies like Elite24bet Casino, SFJL Holding, and AMGO iGaming that have had their gaming licenses canceled by the MGA due to the violations of Maltese gaming regulations.

ESG Code of Good Practice

In November 2023, the MGA announced a set of guidelines for remote gaming operators called the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Code of Good Practice, which focuses on the best practices in these areas.

The Code aims to help the gaming operators in the Maltese jurisdiction promote an environment of sustainability and responsibility in the online gaming industry. MGA mandated all licensees in its jurisdiction to adhere to the code.

The suspension comes at a period when the MGA is preparing to welcome its new CEO Charles Mizzi, who will assume the position in less than three weeks.

Mizzi has been shadowing the current CEO for some weeks, learning about the intricacies of the organization, its operations, and the broader gaming landscape to ensure a smooth transition into his new role.
