The River Cree Resort & Casino, located in the Canadian province of Alberta, has been the target of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) fake scam featuring Baily Nitti, a former reporter for local news channel CityNews.

The fake advertisement appeared on social media platforms and seems to show Nitti endorsing a scam app that purports to be linked to River Cree. Criminals had altered an original story from CityNews featuring a report from Nitti on the ease of lockdown restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic several years ago.

Both senior leadership and Nitti said they were dismayed at how easy it would be to generate a realistic fake advert. Additionally, they were concerned about being associated with criminal activity that could scam members of the public out of money.

Gambling Industry Faces Rise in Fake AI Scams

The CEO of River Cree was quick to point out that this casino was not the only gambling venue to be targeted by fraudsters, and that AI made it relatively simple for criminals to use AI to target gambling audiences for illegal activities.
