River Cree Casino Resort Targeted by AI Fake Adverts in Scam
The River Cree Resort & Casino, located in the Canadian province of Alberta, has been the target of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) fake scam featuring Baily Nitti, a former reporter for local news channel CityNews.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The fake advertisement appeared on social media platforms and seems to show Nitti endorsing a scam app that purports to be linked to River Cree. Criminals had altered an original story from CityNews featuring a report from Nitti on the ease of lockdown restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic several years ago.
Both senior leadership and Nitti said they were dismayed at how easy it would be to generate a realistic fake advert. Additionally, they were concerned about being associated with criminal activity that could scam members of the public out of money.

Gambling Industry Faces Rise in Fake AI Scams
The CEO of River Cree was quick to point out that this casino was not the only gambling venue to be targeted by fraudsters, and that AI made it relatively simple for criminals to use AI to target gambling audiences for illegal activities.
Law enforcement in Alberta commented that the proliferation of AI scammers made their job more difficult and helped criminals obtain personal information for illegal activities.
Once fake gaming related AI scams are identified representatives of the gambling industry say it quite difficult to remove this fraudulent messages from social media platforms. This means members of the public are still at risk until these advertisements are eventually removed from social media.

Gambling regulators and government authorities are turning to AI to enforce regulations. At the end of last year, Indonesian authorities issued a statement that they were using AI to combat illegal online gambling and this had resulted in millions of gambling-related items be blocked.
