Responsible Wagering Australia Appoints Kai Cantwell as CEO
Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA) has announced the appointment of Kai Cantwell as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Having served in various leading governmental roles in Australia, Cantwell brings a wealth of experience to the team. Before landing his latest appointment, Cantwell was recently Chief of Staff for Australia’s Minister for Families and Social Services between September 2017 and June 2022.
He has also worked in the Department of Social Services as a Director and later as State Manager for New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory. Earlier in his career, he had a stint at the Department of Human Services as a Programme Manager and Tournament Director for the Australian Poker League.
Cantwell will be assuming his new role on April 17, 2023.
I am honored to have the opportunity to work with RWA members, sporting and racing bodies, and governments of all levels to ensure we continue to get the balance right between protections, regulation, and freedoms. As we further boost research, data, and insights capability, I look forward to leading RWA to further understand problem gambling behavior and target effective measures.
RWA is an independent body for Australia’s licensed online betting service providers. The organization is one of the main promoters of responsible wagering and increased standards in the sector. Its members pay about AUD 2 Billion in annual taxes and contribute up to AUD 6 billion to the state’s economy.
With his wealth of leadership experience, Mr. Cantwell is uniquely positioned to lead RWA and present a confident and united voice on behalf of its members. His deep understanding of social policy, sports, wagering, and government position him perfectly to lead RWA and its members as we continue to promote socially responsible wagering and advocate for the highest standards in the sector.
