Research Shows Public Do Not Support Thailand Gambling Laws
Following the introduction by the government in Thailand of a bill to introduce gambling to the country, the National Institute of Development Administration has issued findings from research that show the majority of individuals surveyed were against the introduction of increased gambling in the country.
Earlier this month the government of Thailand has proposed new gambling legislation for the jurisdiction. There is a 50-day review period for the parliament to debate the proposed new gaming framework which would see the introduction of regulated land-based casino venues and online gaming. Currently, in the jurisdiction, there is horse racing from racetracks in the country and a state-operated national lottery.
The research surveyed more than 1,300 individuals and asked their opinions on the proposed bill to introduce casino and online gambling regulations in Thailand. The report found that 69% were against the introduction of online gambling, while 59% of those questioned felt they were against land-based casino resorts. Only 29% of respondents said they were in favor of both online gaming and casino resorts being introduced in the Thailand jurisdiction.
One of the issues regarding the new proposed gambling laws is the level of measures being introduced that would ensure responsible gambling and create a safe environment and reduce the risk of players being vulnerable to gambling-related harms.
