The fight between social media star Jake Paul and heavyweight legend Mike Tyson has become the most heavily bet-on combat sports event in recent history.
Jake Paul's boxing match versus Mike Tyson breaks betting records.
Hosted in Arlington, Texas, the fight drew a multigenerational audience and proved that Tyson is as popular as ever. According to BetMGM, bets on Paul vs. Tyson were four times higher than their previous combat sports record in nearly seven years of operation. Similarly, ESPN BET said the event attracted more than quadruple the bets of its next most popular boxing event and twice that of the leading MMA match since the sportsbook’s launch in late 2023.
An Audience of All Ages
Craig Mucklow, the vice president of trading at Caesars Sportsbook, noted that the bout was popular across age groups, and Netflix announced that 60 million households worldwide tuned in to watch the fight.
Those old enough to remember a prime Mike Tyson got to live the nostalgia one last time, while those young enough not to know who Iron Mike was were firmly on the Jake Paul side of the counter.
This generational divide was evident in the betting trends. Older fans placed their bets on Tyson while younger audiences, many of whom have followed Jake Paul since his early YouTube days, backed the influencer-turned-boxer.
Despite being a fan favorite, Mike Tyson entered the fight as the underdog with odds of +230 compared to Jake Paul’s -290. Still, Tyson attracted significant betting interest, with 67% of tickets and 53% of the total money wagered in his favor. Popular bets included Tyson winning by KO/TKO or disqualification at +250, by decision at +1100, or a first-round victory at +1400.
