Popular Political Figure and Entrepreneur Shows Support for Wynn Resorts NYC Casino
Christine Quinn, a former City Council Speaker and a longtime advocate for Manhattan's West Side, has officially thrown her support behind the controversial Hudson Yards casino bid, a joint proposal by Wynn Resorts and Related Companies.

In a video released on the Wynn New York City website, Quinn articulated her reasons for backing the bid, emphasizing the potential for the project to create job opportunities for homeless mothers. "I am supporting Related and Wynn New York City's bid for the Hudson Yards because it is the one that most recognizes that the biggest problem facing this city is that of homeless families with children," Quinn stated in the video. She added, "I am ready for thousands of jobs for homeless moms working with Wynn New York City."

The development, which is set to transform Hudson Yards West, promises to bring significant improvements to the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhood, as well as substantial economic benefits for New York City as a whole. According to a press release from the companies, the project would generate over 40,000 construction and permanent jobs.
Quinn's political career, which began in 1999 when she won a special election for the New York City Council's 3rd district, has long been tied to the West Side. Representing neighborhoods such as Hell's Kitchen, Chelsea, and Greenwich Village, Quinn was reelected several times and, from 2006 to 2013, was the Speaker of the City Council.

The Hudson Yards development, a massive real estate project on the West Side, was initiated during Quinn's time as Councilmember and Speaker. At the groundbreaking ceremony in December 2012, she stood alongside key figures like Related Companies CEO Stephen Ross and then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "The Hudson Yards project speaks volumes about the attractiveness of New York City, and the West Side of Manhattan in particular, to private investment," Quinn remarked at the event, highlighting her longstanding connection to the area.
The Hudson Yards casino bid is one of three major proposals vying for a casino license in the vicinity of Hell's Kitchen. In addition to Wynn and Related's bid, there's a proposal for a casino property at W41st Street and 11th Avenue, while SL Green, in partnership with Caesars Entertainment and Jay-Z's Roc Nation, is pushing for a venue in Times Square. The New York State Gaming Facility Location Board is expected to award licenses to three downstate casino proposals by the end of next year.
In addition to these three Manhattan-based proposals, there are two other Midtown bids in play: one for a casino at Saks Fifth Avenue by Hudson's Bay, and another for a facility near the United Nations building, tentatively named the Freedom Plaza casino and apartment complex. Beyond Manhattan, there are proposals for casinos at Citi Field in Queens, Coney Island in Brooklyn and Long Island's Nassau Coliseum.
