The raids were instigated by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch and as a result, they arrested four men, two from Ahmedabad, and another two persons who were foreign nationals, coming from Pakistan and Canada. Police named two of the suspects as Mukesh Patel, and Subham Patel, who had purchased websites to stream the cricket as part of the illegal gambling operation.

In further details of the arrests, police in the Ahmedabad Crime Branch said they seized various computer equipment including four desktop CPUs, a laptop, an iPad, and several routers, along with several international bank cards and some mobile phones.

The whole operation was initiated following a tip-off from Star India Private Limited, the official broadcaster of the T20 World Cup in India, who objected that they were suffering a financial loss due to the illegal streaming activities of criminal gangs.

International Criminal Activity to Stream Cricket to Illegal Operators

During the raids, it became apparent that the individuals involved were nationals from different countries and were operating an international criminal enterprise. The purpose of the scam was to provide cheap live streaming of a major sport to illegal online betting websites.

This allowed illegal bookies, such as magicwin366.net, to offer its users bets on the T20 cricket world cup.

Patel had bought the web domain ss247.life, which was used to upload cricket matches on different dummy websites with the help of co-accused Mukesh Patel. Another accused Subham Patel, who is now settled in Canada, took care of further processing of the videos. The three received the live streaming of the games from one Azhar Amin, a Pakistani national. All four were constantly in touch. They provided the streaming service to websites such as magicwin366.net that were used for illegal cricket betting.
