PokerStars Makes Ontario Debut
Leading poker operator PokerStars has announced its entry into Ontario after getting full approval to operate from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
PokerStars became cleared to launch its services in Canada after the AGCO approved its parent company TSG Interactive Canada for an internet gaming license earlier in the month. The license became effective on 8 June 2022 and will last for three years, expiring on 7 June 2024.
With the new development, poker players in Ontario will be able to access the PokerStars site and play poker tournaments. PokerStars is the world's largest real-money online poker site, controlling about two-thirds of the global poker market.
In many respects, Ontario is our home market, given the first-ever hand of PokerStars was played here over 20 years ago, so we are thrilled about the new regulated environment within which our players can play. A lot has changed in that time, but our commitment to offering our players the most epic and thrilling experience in the market hasn't – and we can't wait to get started.
In April, PokerStars launched a peer-to-peer-betting site, PokerStars Exchange, which shares the same technology Betfair uses. According to the firm, the betting exchange will allow players to create their own odds and bet against an event.
