Planet Hollywood Brings Back Poker Four Years After Giving up the Game

Planet Hollywood is re-entering the Las Vegas poker scene nearly four years after closing its previous poker room. The reopening marks a shift for the property, which had exited the poker market in 2020 during a period of widespread casino downsizing and closures driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new poker room is situated on the second floor of Planet Hollywood and remains under construction as the launch date approaches. Designed with both function and aesthetics in mind, the venue will feature 23 poker tables, including 12 designated for cash games and 11 reserved for tournament play in side rooms.

The atmosphere will be defined by gothic design elements, red ambient lighting, and stone-inspired pillars. Enhancing the player experience are 21 flatscreen televisions strategically placed throughout the room for viewing live sports and poker updates.

One of the standout features of the poker room is a scenic balcony that overlooks the Pleasure Pit on the main casino floor. This addition provides players with an open-air environment to take a break from the action while remaining connected to the dynamic energy of the casino. The layout and visual appeal of the space aim to set a new standard for poker room design on the Strip.

The poker room's adjacent ballroom space, which previously hosted Planet Hollywood's Phamous Poker Series GOLIATH, will be repurposed to accommodate daily low-stakes tournaments and other special events. Two private side rooms will host 12 tournament tables, and a secluded backroom—decorated with images from classic Las Vegas films such as The Hangover and Ocean's Eleven—is envisioned as a venue for private games and potential live-streamed events. Subject to regulatory approval, a full-service bar is also planned within close proximity to the tables to serve players and guests.

Putting COVID-19 in the Rear-View Mirror

The return of poker to Planet Hollywood comes at a time when the broader Las Vegas poker market is recovering from the effects of COVID-19. Many poker rooms across the city closed permanently during the downturn, and few have re-entered the space with the level of commitment that Planet Hollywood now demonstrates. The casino's new poker offering is intended to reestablish its presence in the Las Vegas poker ecosystem.

As part of its relaunch strategy, Planet Hollywood plans to host two stops on the World Series of Poker Circuit, providing players with access to major tournament action. The room will also accommodate additional poker festivals throughout the year, further establishing itself as a hub for poker enthusiasts.

Among the upcoming events is Allen Kessler's Chainsaw Mixed Series of Poker, which will return for its third edition from May 12 to May 20. The tournament series includes a range of poker variants such as Omaha 8, Stud 8, H.O.R.S.E., Big O, and 2-7 Triple Draw. A highlight of the series will be a $1,100 buy-in T.O.R.S.E. Championship, a mixed-game format set to debut at the World Series of Poker later this summer.
