The National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS) has announced the organization has accepted a resolution to promote responsible gambling in the gaming industry.

The NCLGS is a group of legislators in the US who formed the organization two years ago to discuss the regulation of the gambling industry. The number of states in the US that have regulated gambling is more than 30 and growing all the time.

The gaming industry stakeholders have stated it will adopt the resolution to develop responsible gaming standards for two years. The organization has come up with 16 points to promote responsible gambling and prevent harm to vulnerable players.

Gaming in the United States is authorized and regulated at the state level, but states need guidance as gaming grows. This two-year effort by legislators is the first to leverage what we have learned for the benefit of our members as they grapple with this critical need.

NCLGS Proposes State Gambling Guidelines

The announcement from the NCLGS has included four main guidelines it would like every US State to follow regarding gaming regulation.

They would like to see the introduction of one national phoneline across all states that deals with problem gambling.

The second proposed guideline focuses on gambling operators’ marketing. It suggests that marketing for gambling companies should only target people over the legal limit to gamble and should not offer promotions to those at risk of harm from gambling.

Customers should have the ability to enter a scheme that allows players to self-exclude from gambling. This scheme should mean players are excluded from all states, and there should be a choice of length of self-exclusion time that players can choose.

The NCLGS wants states to cooperate concerning self-exclusion lists so that customers who are a risk of gambling harm cannot continue gambling in other states.

The extraordinary, ongoing expansion of gaming into new forms across multiple states demands that lawmakers take necessary steps to protect their most vulnerable citizens. This resolution will help them meet that critical goal.
