The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has canceled the authorization of Betago in Malta which allowed it to operate in the country.

Although the authority didn’t disclose the specific reasons for revoking Betago's MGA license, the gambling company is mandated to refund player balances in accordance with the Gaming Act of the jurisdiction.

Betago has the option to appeal the decision, but the MGA requires the operator to provide a 'transaction report from their back-end system along with supporting bank statements. With this request, the regulator can verify and confirm that all player funds are remitted properly.

Rush Gaming License Cancelled

The cancellation of Betago’s license in Malta comes days after the regulator instructed another online gambling operator, Rush Gaming, to halt its operations in compliance with the Gaming and Enforcement Regulations.

Similarly, the MGA didn’t expressly state the breaches committed by the operator. However, it confirmed that its authorization suspension was implemented under the provisions of reg. 8 (1) (f) of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations.

Rush Gaming was likewise ordered to allow players to have access to their accounts and refund any funds owed to players.

MGA’s Commitment to Safer Gambling

With its recent focus on fostering a safer gambling environment, the MGA has launched an ongoing effort to expel companies that don’t comply with its standards from its gambling sector.

Last year, the regulator axed out companies like Elite24bet Casino, SFJL Holding, and AMGO iGaming from its market. It started the process this year with Rush Gaming, and from all indications, more are to come.

The MGA’s renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission as well as its released ESG Code of Good Practice, underscore its commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable practices within its gambling industry.
