Leap Gaming Gets Go-Ahead to Launch in Sweden
Online gaming supplier Leap Gaming has received a license from the Spelinspektionen, or the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), to offer casino and virtual sports content in Sweden.
With the Swedish certification, Leap Gaming can partner with several licensed operators and providers home to the Nordic country, such as Evolution, LeoVegas (STO: LEO), and Betsson (STO: BETS-B).
In recent months, the leading provider has attained licenses from key jurisdictions in Europe like Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and several others. It has also partnered with several operators, with the latest being Playtech in February. These important licenses have helped increase Leap’s brand growth in the European online gaming market.
Leap Gaming focuses on providing advanced products to the global gaming industry. One of the best ways to achieve this goal is by getting approval and access to new regulated markets.
The Swedish iGaming has potential for Leap and other online entities operating within the jurisdiction. According to the SGA report, the proportion of Swedish citizens gambling for money increased by seven percent in 2021, and 86% of these gamblers prefer to play at home.
However, the budding market also comes with some drawbacks for operators and suppliers alike as the Sweden government increased the cost of operating an online casino in the county. On March 7, the finance ministry published a memorandum to impose an application fee of SEK 120,000 ($12,046) for a gaming software license.
In the proposal, the fee to renew a commercial iGaming and betting license also doubled from SEK 300,000 to SEK 600,000.
