Kindred Group’s Fine Reduced by Swedish Court of Appeal
The Kindred Group, the parent of Spooniker, has announced that the Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping, Sweden has ruled the 2019 sanction should be significantly reduced.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:This sees the original fine of SEK 100 million by the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) reduced to SEK 30 million.
The original fine of SEK 100 million was handed out to Spooniker by the SGA in 2020 relating to breaches in the previous year. The breaches were for violating bonus rules with the operator offering competitions and promotions, which were considered to be financial incentives and, therefore, bonuses. Kindred immediately appealed the decision, and following the first appeal, the fine was reduced to SEK 50 million.
Under the details of the sanction, the Kindred Group appealed the decision of the fine and the Administrative Court in the jurisdiction reduced the fine further to SEK 30 million.

Kindred Group Maintains Bonus Rules Were Vague
The Kindred Group has always disputed the fine because it believes the legislation was vague and while it welcomes the reduction in the penalty the provider feels there should be no fine at all.
The Swedish Gambling Act came into effect at the start of 2019 and Kindred was accused of breaching these guidelines. The gaming operator argued the new rules were ambiguous which had led to unnecessary confusion.
Kindred says it wants to adhere to responsible gaming procedures and achieve compliance with betting legislation, and was keen to point out that it addressed the original breaches when they were first raised by the SGA in 2020. However, it wants legislation regarding bonuses and promotions to be clearer and easier to understand.
Kindred is of the opinion that since the rules were vague, opening for different interpretations, the sanction fee should be reduced in its total.
