The state of Kentucky in North America has recently welcomed the introduction of retail sports betting at multiple locations throughout the region.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) set the start of regulated sports betting in the state to commence on September 7th and issued licenses to operate in the region to racetracks and other gaming venues.

The six racetracks in Kentucky operated by Churchill Downs were given a license by the regulator and signed into legislation by Governor Andy Beshear.

List of Sports Available for Betting

Last week, ahead of the start of regulated sports betting in Kentucky, the KHRC issued a statement that outlined the sports that players can place a wager on and set out the types of bets that operators can offer to gamblers.

The list of approved sports includes the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the NCAA portfolio of college sports.

The list of bet types that can be accepted by gaming operators includes Single-game bets, Teaser bets, Parlays, Over-under bets, and Moneyline bets.

In-play wagering is also allowed; however, any bets that are not included in the approved list must receive approval from the KHRC before the operator can offer them to their customers.

Excitement for sports wagering is building as we are just one week away from opening retail locations and one month from opening mobile applications for sports wagering, Kentuckians now know where they can place a bet and the type of sporting events and wagers that licensees can offer.

Online Sports Betting Just Weeks Away

Sports betting in Kentucky is being phased in throughout the month and following retail sports wagering now being legal in the state, and customers will soon be able to place a bet online later this month.

The KHRC stated that gaming operators were able to pre-register for a license to supply an online sports betting offering to the general public.

From September 28th, a limited number of gaming operators will be able to supply customers in Kentucky with the opportunity to wager on sports via an online platform.
