Kansspelautoriteit and Cloudflare Partner to Battle Illegal Operators
Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch gambling regulator, has reached an agreement with Cloudflare, one of the leading cloud services providers, to battle illegal gambling operators together.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Cloudflare is set to provide the KSA with information that will help identify unlicensed gambling operators active in the Netherlands. The agreement gives the KSA the chance to actively ask questions of Cloudflare as part of its investigations in order to obtain more information about those hosting the unlicensed gambling sites.
Agreement Follows Clash between KSA and Cloudflare
The deal comes after the KSA imposed an order on Cloudflare to withdraw its services from two unlicensed gambling operators. The order was subsequently withdrawn, but Cloudflare was initially told to stop providing its services to the websites NederlandsCasinos.net and OnlineCasinosSpelen.com.
Following discussions between the two organizations, it emerged that Cloudflare was unable to unilaterally block the two sites.

Cloudflare Agrees to Provide Helpful Information
The KSA explained that while Cloudflare cannot take steps to block the sites, it can provide helpful information. As a result, the order was withdrawn and the two agreed to work together to combat the illegal operators.
It is prohibited to offer games of chance in the Netherlands without a license from the KSA. Promoting illegal gambling is also not permitted under the Gambling Act. To combat illegal offers, the KSA takes various measures, for example erecting barriers at payment providers or internet providers. By ensuring that these intermediaries no longer offer their services to illegal providers, illegal offerings are made more difficult or possibly even stopped altogether.
Just last month the KSA issued its largest ever fine. The operator, Gammix Limited, was fined €19.6 million for offering games without a license. It was ordered to cease its operations in the Dutch market or face a weekly fine of €1.4 million.
