Kansas Social Media Scams Imitate Casinos to Steal Deposits
Authorities have warned of fake social media links claiming to lead to the websites of Kansas Star, Prairie Band, and Winstar casinos that are actually phishing scams.

The fraudulent adverts have spread across social media platforms in Kansas and the number of victims remains unclear. The perpetrators of the scheme have posted fake gambling advertisements promising a nonexistent $1,500 bonus for users who clicked on the link and registered. These ads were designed to mimic the branding of legitimate casinos, attracting players with the false promise of playing real online casino games.
However, Kansas does not currently allow online gambling. Despite this, some individuals unknowingly deposited money at the fraudulent sites, only to discover there were no real games and their funds had been stolen by the scammers.
Local News Breaks the Story
KWCH-12’s Factfinder team was among the first to uncover and verify the scam before quickly reporting it to the appropriate authorities. The ads, which initially seemed legitimate, duped unsuspecting players, causing financial loss and exposing them to further risks.
A local resident warned others about the dangers of these ads:
They’re always new ones for new casino. It doesn’t matter what casino it is, if you click on it and deposit your money to become a winner, you’ll become a loser.

In addition to stealing deposits, these fraudulent links may compromise victims’ devices with malware or ransomware. Those who click the links risk exposing sensitive personal and financial information to bad actors.
While the fraudulent ads appear to have been removed from social media, details remain scarce regarding which platforms were involved. Law enforcement and cybersecurity experts urge people to remain vigilant when encountering gambling offers online.
