John Borghetti AO to Lead Crown Resorts as New Chair
Crown Resorts has announced that John Borghetti AO will assume the role of Chair for the integrated resort and entertainment group starting from July 1, 2024.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:This leadership change follows the decision of William McBeath to step down from his position as Chair while continuing to serve as an independent non-executive director.
McBeath, who took on the Chair role in July 2022 after Blackstone acquired Crown, was instrumental in overseeing the company’s transformation and ensuring regulatory compliance. During his tenure, both Crown Melbourne and Crown Sydney maintained their operating licenses, and significant remediation progress was achieved at Crown Perth.
From Aviation to Gambling
Departing chair McBeath explained that he believes Borghetti is the right person to ensure Crown continues moving in the right direction.
Mr Borghetti is a very highly regarded director and executive whose extensive operational, leadership and governance experience will ensure Crown continues to focus on safe and responsible operations whilst growing and enhancing its entertainment experiences for guests of Crown.
With over 47 years of experience in the aviation industry, Borghetti has served on numerous boards. He was honored with the title of Member of the Order of Australia in 2017, recognizing his contributions to aviation and tourism, among other sectors.

A Focus on Compliance
Discussing his appointment, Borghetti committed to staying focused on “compliant, safe and profitable operations while ensuring we position the business for future growth."
This leadership transition follows Crown Melbourne’s successful retention of its casino license, which came after an AU$200 million ($133 million) investment in operational reforms.
In late April, Crown Resorts announced a reduction of 1,000 jobs, and in December 2023, Victoria’s casino regulator began investigating allegations against CEO Ciaran Carruthers.
