It says that the significant rise in gambling in Japan started during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Demands for its support services have seen an 11-fold increase in the responsible gaming organization during the period from 2020 to 2024.
Research carried out by the organization found that a small percentage of respondents had found themselves vulnerable to gambling-related harm and had suffered some financial distress. There was also a rise in some gamblers taking illegal work in the country, known as yami baito jobs in Japan.
