Indonesia Warns Payment Providers in Online Gambling Crackdown
The Indonesian government has announced that it is set to target digital payment service providers that are found to facilitate online gambling payments in the jurisdiction.

This is part of the authority's crackdown on gambling activities in the country. This announcement comes from the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) in Indonesia, and the regulatory authority has indicated as part of this policy it has contacted 21 payment providers outlining details these companies provide payment platforms for 42 digital payment applications.
This action is part of the ongoing policy by authorities in the country to reduce illegal gambling in the country. In June, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia signed an order that the government was making the eradication of online gambling a priority.

Payment Providers Order to Provide Audit Reports
The Ministry has sent these payment providers warning letters and has stated that it intends to sanction these financial institutions if they continue to provide payment services for gaming operators.
In details of the letters, the Ministry has given the payment providers seven days to undertake and complete an audit of their business to list any gambling-related activities. Any payment provider that fails to complete this audit report will risk being sanctioned by the regulators.
Kominfo has reported that this crackdown on gambling is bearing fruit and that it has been responsible for blocking more than 2.1 million websites. Additionally, it has reported the blocking of thousands of accounts in Indonesia related to gambling actions, which is estimated to be around US $36.39 billion.
If their audit reports are not submitted within seven days, they will be subject to administrative sanctions.
