IGSA Sets Up a Committee to Oversee Ethical AI Issues in Gaming
The International Gaming Standards Association (IGSA), an industry group maintaining gaming standards, has announced the formation of a new body called the Ethical Artificial Intelligence Committee (EAIC), with the aim of overseeing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the industry.
The IGSA is an organization dedicated to creating and maintaining standards within the gaming industry, and the membership is made up of regulators, operators, and suppliers. The unregulated growth of AI has prompted the IGSC to set up this new committee.
The EAIC will comprise many tier-1 operators and providers, including Aristocrat Gaming, AXES.ai, Light & Wonder, and Playtech. It will be responsible for presiding over AI algorithms within the gaming industry to ensure that they are fair to human users and customers in the gaming markets.
There is an increasing use of AI in sporting events by gaming operators to make multiple decisions in in-play markets and promote a tailor-made experience for each individual user. As AI becomes more sophisticated and can make decisions in gaming markets far faster than human users and it could become unfair to the customers of gaming operators.
We are at a pivotal moment in the history of our Industry, Artificial Intelligence is coming of age, and its possibilities are limitless. The IGSA's charter as a standards organization gives us a unique lens with which to protect our members and our industry from both the opportunities and challenges that AI brings with it. The formation of this non-technical committee will establish frameworks that empower regulators working tirelessly to update their jurisdictional requirements in the AI arena.
Earle G. Hall, the Chairman of the Board of IGSA and CEO of AXES.ai, said. "Artificial intelligence is the killer app that will redefine the rules of competition. To ensure that these rules are fair, ethical, and integral, the creation of this committee will offer our industry guidelines, policies, and standards to learn from and to adopt and adapt in their jurisdictions.”
How Will This Influence the Gaming Industry
The formation of the Ethical Artificial Intelligence Committee by the IGSA marks a pivotal moment for the gaming industry. It demonstrates the industry's commitment to ensuring the fair and ethical use of AI in gaming and addresses concerns regarding the potential unfair advantages AI algorithms may provide. The committee's work will establish guidelines, policies, and standards that regulators and operators can adopt to navigate the AI landscape effectively and responsibly.
