Grainne Hurst to Lead BGC as New Chief Executive Officer
The Betting and Gaming Council has announced the appointment of Grainne Hurst as its new Chief Executive Officer.
As an industry veteran, Hurst brings several years of experience in the betting and gaming sector to the BGC. Before her role, she was most recently the Group Corporate Affairs Director of Entain, a position she has held since March 2018. Hurst also serves as a board member of the Entain Foundation and spearheaded the development and implementation of the company's global safer gambling strategy,' Changing for the Bettor.'
Hurst is also a member of the Global Gaming Women board and played a key role in the organization’s expansion to the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She has also worked for Ladbrokes Coral as Head of Public Affairs and served as a special advisor to the UK government.
I am delighted to be joining the BGC at such a crucial time for its members and the millions of customers they serve. I am very grateful to Michael Dugher for everything he has done in establishing the BGC and I look forward to working closely with him to move it forward. My focus will always be on ensuring that we have a well-regulated industry that protects customers and looks after their interests. The betting industry in the UK has world-leading businesses and iconic brands and I will work hard to ensure they remain so. There is much to be done and I look forward to getting started.

Dugher to Become BGC’s Chair after Simmons
In January, BGC announced that its current Chair, Brigid Simmons will exit her role by April 20 and will be replaced by current CEO Michael Dugher. This led the company to start shopping for a new replacement for Dugher, which ultimately culminated in the selection of Hurst for the position.
With Hurst's appointment already ratified by members, she is set to assume office in the coming months.
Grainne’s appointment is excellent news for BGC and our members. She won a very tough external recruitment process and clearly demonstrated that she has not only mission-critical knowledge and experience in the regulated industry – both online and in the land-based sector – but also a strong vision for continued change and improvement at the BGC.
