Gaming Industry Unites for Safer Gambling Week 2024
Yesterday, November 18, was the start of Safer Gambling Week 2024, an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about responsible betting.
Safer Gambling Week 2024 launches to promote responsible betting.
Running until November 25, the initiative spans the whole of Europe with the aim of uniting the gambling industry in its efforts to encourage safer play.
In the UK, the campaign is led by the Betting & Gaming Council (BGC), the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (Bacta), and the Bingo Association. Both online platforms and physical venues are increasing messages about safer gambling throughout the week with the aim of fostering a nationwide conversation.
These messages will include advice on tools to help players stay in control of their gaming and information on where to find additional support.
Ensuring safety should always be central to every aspect of gambling. However, Safer Gambling Week offers a valuable chance to emphasise this priority even further. It also enables operators to exchange best practices, helping to make gambling in Britain among the safest experiences worldwide.
Building on the Success of 2023
Organizers are looking to build on the momentum from Safer Gambling Week 2023, which inspired a large increase in the use of safer gambling tools. During last year’s campaign, 54% of players set deposit limits for the first time, while the number of players enabling reality checks rose by more than 300%.
The 2023 campaign also achieved impressive social media engagement, generating over 50 million impressions across platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Safer Gambling Week is about showcasing the tools that exist in the regulated industry all year round to ensure that the millions of people who enjoy a regular flutter, continue to do so in a safe and responsible environment. Previous years have shown that this campaign leads to increased use of those popular safer gambling tools.

UK Government Backs Industry Efforts
The initiative has received strong support from the UK government, with Baroness Twycross, minister for gambling, praising its goals. This year is the first Safer Gambling Week under the new Labour government, which came to power in July.
However, Safer Gambling Week 2024 is not limited to the UK. Across Europe, the campaign will feature webinars, events, and information-sharing sessions focused on advancing safer gambling practices.
Topics for discussion include understanding problem gambling, improving responsible betting measures, and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance player safety.
A coordinated social media campaign will further support the initiative, featuring multilingual messages and translated graphics to reach a diverse audience.
Several prominent organizations, including the European Betting & Gaming Association, the International Betting Integrity Association, EveryMatrix, and EPIC Global Solutions, are backing the campaign.
