FanDuel Sued over Unpaid Parlay Winnings After Self-Exclusion
A man from New Jersey has taken legal action against FanDuel, claiming the company violated its policies by failing to pay out his parlay winnings after he voluntarily opted out of further gambling.
Man sues FanDuel for not paying winnings following self-exclusion.
Michael Wadlow, from Ramsey, Bergen County, filed the lawsuit in state court, seeking $20,000 in damages. The amount could increase to $52,250 if the final leg of his parlay bet, which hinges on the New York Yankees winning the World Series, proves successful.
FanDuel Contradicts Website Terms
According to the lawsuit, Wadlow placed a four-team parlay at FanDuel on May 15. After successfully winning the first three legs of the bet, he opted to self-exclude from the website while the fourth leg of the bet remained unresolved.
It states on FanDuel’s website that self-exclusion results in the inability to access an account for at least a year and cancels any upcoming Daily Fantasy entries. However, it also states that “active and pending wagers will not be canceled.”
Wadlow claims that he trusted this information when deciding to self-exclude, believing that his bet would stay valid. At the time of his exclusion, the cash-out option was valued at $5,800. However, FanDuel only refunded his original $500 bet, leaving him with no winnings.
The lawsuit claims that this resulted in “significant financial harm and potential future loss” for Wadlow. He also argues that FanDuel’s actions denied him the opportunity to benefit from the bet’s success and caused emotional distress due to a breach of trust.
FanDuel has said that it will not comment on pending litigation.

Payout May Increase If Yankees Win World Series Title
Wadlow’s lawsuit seeks $20,000 in compensatory damages, which includes the lost $5,800 cash-out option and the potential future profits he may have secured had he been able to hedge his bet. If the Yankees win the World Series title, Wadlow believes he is entitled to the full payout of $52,250.
The case, which Wadlow is pursuing without legal representation, also requests a jury trial and stresses the need for a swift resolution due to the Yankees’ ongoing participation in this year’s Major League Baseball playoffs. The World Series is due to take place between Oct. 29 and Nov. 2.
Given that this is just a few weeks away, the lawsuit calls for the case to “proceed with urgency.”
