FanDuel Spent Double for Florida Gambling Initiative
A newly filed finance report has revealed that FanDuel, an online gambling operator made another contribution of $4.38 million to back the expansion of gambling to the state of Florida in 2022.
The contribution was made to the Florida Education Champions political committee, one of the leading Floridan organizations trying to put the proposed amendment on the November 2022 ballot.
With the November funding, FanDuel has spent $14.38 million to champion the cause. Other sponsors of the committee include DraftKings, who contributed $22.71 million.
In November, Florida Education Champions spent about $10.5 million, only second to the Florida Voters in Charge Committee, who disbursed about $11.4 million in the pursuant of the gambling petitions.
The two groups are in a race to meet the February 2022 deadline slated by the state to submit 891,599 valid petitions supporting online gambling in Florida.
As of the time of compiling this report, Florida Voters in Charge has convinced 246,999 signed voters to sign their petition after spending $27.4 million overall on petitions. Florida Education Champions has acquired 172,000 signatures after spending around $26.8 million on its efforts.
However, these two gambling initiatives are opposed by the Seminole Tribe and its political committee called Standing UP for Florida, who have also launched campaigns on TV to ensure that Florida voters do not sign the two petitions.
