The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has received a $1 million donation from FanDuel to aid its mission of helping under-represented students become highly qualified college graduates.

The donation makes it the third significant contribution from FanDuel to the UNCF's mission. On the two earlier occasions, the gambling giant had donated $1m each to aid students in Virginia and Maryland.

However, the latest funding will go to 10 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in Ohio, including Central State University, Case Western University, Franklin University, Herzing University-Akron, Chamberlain University, Ohio State University-Newark Campus, Ursuline College, Union Institute & University, University of Cincinnati-Blue Ash College, and Wilberforce University.

We're always looking for ways to make a positive impact in the communities in which we operate our sportsbook. As we reflect on our first year of operation in Ohio, we're proud to continue our partnership with UNCF to support the HBCU community in the state and look forward to supporting hard-working students at institutions across Ohio.

FanDuel's Beneficial Partnership and Commitment to HBCUs

In addition to the donation, FanDuel will also collaborate with UNCF to actively recruit students from colleges and universities for participation in its internship program at one of its offices in the US.

We truly appreciate the ongoing support from FanDuel, as financial and academic support like this help make a real difference for HBCUs and their students. We look forward to continuing our partnership; students benefit so much from internship opportunities.

FanDuel’s generous gesture comes at a period when Ohio is celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of its legalized sports betting industry. Ohio’s sports betting market went live in January 2023 with FanDuel and several operators. Since then, the company has enjoyed massive patronage in the state, with its major competitor being DraftKings.

In November 2023, FanDuel had the highest sports betting handle in the state at $293 million out of a total of $864 million wagered.
