Ex-Prime Minister Joins Call To Ban Gambling Ads in Australia
John Howard, the former Prime Minister of Australia, has joined gambling reform organizations who are raising their concerns following reports that the current government in the country is not going to implement a total ban on gambling advertisements on television.
Ex-Australian Prime Minister calls for implementation of all gambling recommendations.
Howard has added his name to a list of more than sixty prominent signatories who have written an open letter to the government in Australia calling for the full range of 31 recommendations outlined in the Murphy review to be written into law.
Last week the government said it was considering the recommendations from the gambling review of 2021 and signalled it may not ban gambling advertising completely but bring in legislation to dramatically limit promotions by gambling companies on mainstream television platforms.
This has led to the considerable ire of anti-gambling organizations and commentators like Howard who had assumed legislation to ban gambling advertisements on television in the country was a formality, and public criticism of the gambling ads limit.

Several ex-prime ministers and the Alliance for Gambling Reform have joined forces to reiterate they believe the current government has the opportunity to reduce gambling-related harm in the country by enacting the full list of recommendations set out in the proposed gambling review.
