Drake Loses Big on Saturday UFC Main Event
Renowned rapper of Canadian descent Drake reportedly lost $275,000 on Saturday night after putting money on Jorge Masvidal to beat Colby Covington at UFC 272.
Although Covington was the favorite to win across all sportsbooks, Drake still pitched his tent with Masvidal with a quarter of a million dollars. However, the superstar's sports bet ended in a loss after Covington won the UFC272 match by unanimous decision.
Covington and Masvidal were once good friends. However, they fell out of friendship and decided to face off in the just concluded UFC Octagon. Of the two, Covington was bookmakers' favorite to win because of his age and match history - he won his previous two fights before the last one.
True to bookies' prediction, Covington not only controlled most of the match, but he also took down Masvidal and pinned him down on the mat several times. These and others made up the points that gave him the desired win over his opponent.
After the match, the multi-platinum selling artist experienced attacks from trolls online, with some bantering him for the loss of his money and others alluding to the Drake curse.
The Drake curse is a superstition that believes that the rapper brings bad luck to any athletes or stars who associate with Drake or take pictures with him before a match or event.
Believers of this superstition point to examples like Conor McGregor, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Serena Williams, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Joshua, who experienced losses after taking pictures with the rapper.
