Churchill Downs Unveils Major Grandstand Renovation Plans
Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI), known for its pari-mutuel horseracing, casino gambling, and entertainment, has announced a major new investment in its Churchill Downs Racetrack and has released details about the upcoming renovation of its Grandstand Club and Pavilion.

This news follows the recent completion of a $200 million refurbishment of the racetrack, finished in time for the record-breaking 150th Kentucky Derby, which was won by Mystik Dan, ridden by Brian Hernandez Junior.
Work to Be Completed by 151st Kentucky Derby
According to Churchill Downs, the upcoming Grandstand Club and Pavilion renovation will cost between $80 million and $90 million. Similar to the previous renovations, this project aims to be ready before next year’s race, ensuring completion for the 151st Kentucky Derby scheduled for May 2025.

The upgraded facilities will include modern amenities and enhanced viewing experiences, blending contemporary comfort with the iconic charm that has made Churchill Downs a legendary site in the world of horse racing.

Comfortable Seating and Enhanced Amenities
The Grandstand Club renovation will replace the current outdoor aluminum bleachers with approximately 8,300 new, comfortable seats. Visitors can look forward to rail boxes and uncovered stadium-style seats positioned alongside the dirt track. Special trackside seats will offer racing fans an immersive experience, ensuring they don’t miss any action from the starting gate.
The first-floor upgrades will include new and improved betting windows, bars, and permanent concessions. The second floor will be transformed into an outdoor garden featuring additional betting windows, bars, and concessions. This space will also house dining seats and an open-air balcony. The third-floor box seats will see improvements as well, adding new amenities to accommodate 2,800 guests.
