Carnival Cruise Reinforces Casino-Only Gambling Policy
Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, John Heald, has issued a friendly reminder to passengers that gambling onboard is only permitted in the official casino areas following a guests inquiry about the cruise line’s gambling policies.
The guest is set to sail on the Carnival Radiance on February 9, 2025, for a 14-night Carnival Journeys trip to Hawaii and wants to play Left-Center-Right, a popular game that often has large prize pools. However, they were unhappy with Carnival’s stance on restricting gambling activities to the casino floor.
The guest claimed that other cruise lines had allowed private gambling sessions in cabins for groups of up to 12 people, arguing that there was no harm in permitting this for a game particularly popular among older Americans.
Gambling Restricted to Casino Area
Despite the request, Carnival Cruise Line has made it clear that gambling will remain confined to the casino. Heald explained that while the company has considered allowing private or hosted casino games outside the designated areas, they ultimately decided to maintain strict rules prohibiting this.
Carnival Cruise Line, like other major cruise operators, works to provide guests with a premium experience that includes casino-style gambling. Over the years, onboard casinos have become increasingly sophisticated, with advanced gaming systems and even wide-area jackpot networks across ships. These systems allow prize pools to grow rapidly, making them an attractive feature for passengers.

Avoiding Restrictive Territorial Waters
However, gambling regulations differ based on jurisdiction. For example, territories such as the Cayman Islands are debating whether to allow gambling onboard ships in their waters. Currently, many vessels must suspend casino operations when entering territorial waters, which has led some ships to avoid ports like the Cayman Islands altogether and this potentially has a negative effect on the local economy.
Carnival Cruise Line ensures that it is in compliance with these laws while providing guests with access to enjoyable and regulated casino gaming. However, if the Cayman Islands changes its regulations, then Carnival Cruise Line passengers may be able to enjoy gambling 24/7, even if it is in restricted areas onboard.
