Cambodia Regulator Cracks Down On 79 Illegal Gambling Sites
The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) has reportedly shut down 79 illegal online gambling sites for running illegal online gambling operations in Cambodia.
According to the TRC, the gambling websites were causing harm to Cambodians and undermining social security through their illegal gambling activities in the Asian state.
In its press release, TRC pointed to the government decree issued on August 18, 2019, which prohibited the management and operation of internet gambling businesses in Cambodia as its legal backing for closing the sites.
“TRC will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Interior and National Police, relevant authorities and all operators of telecommunications networks to ban these websites from operating illegal online gambling services,” the press release said.
TRC also asked the public to help implement the gambling directive by reporting any information they have about illegal online gambling operations in the state through the 6789 hotline and its Facebook page.
San Chey, the executive director of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability, was confident in the policy of the royal government to ban internet gambling. He postulated that gambling continues to be a problem in Cambodian society due to a lack of knowledge about its harms and a lack of livelihoods that left too many people idle.
We know that gambling attracts many young people who become so enthusiastic about it because it is an addiction for them with an effect on their brains that is similar to drugs. They make their parents and guardians lose money and property and they suffer from mental illness as well. Gambling is a plague on the happiness of families in Cambodia society.
