VTA Worker Faces First-Degree Murder Charges
The victim who was shot and killed was Regulus “Reggie” Teotico, a 45-year-old man. Bui is now facing first-degree murder charges.
“Evidence suggests Bui is solely responsible for the victim’s death. Both worked at VTA [Valley Transportation Authority],” a post on X shared by the sheriff's office stated.
The shooting took place on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Chaboya Division Yard. Teotico was pronounced dead at the scene.
VTA general manager Carolyn Gonot said Teotico was “a kind, hard-working driver who was well known amongst his colleagues.”

In another post on X, the sheriff’s office stated they were “actively investigating a shooting that occurred at the @VTA Chaboya Division Yard” in the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 21.
“One victim was involved and has been pronounced deceased. Our Homicide and Crime Scene Detectives are actively investigating the crime scene,” the tweet concluded.
Police said Teotico had been employed by the VTA for 10 years and was friends with Bui, hanging out with him outside of work. Additional information released from the police may link to potential gambling problems of one of the sides.
They were known to participate in the same activities outside of their VTA employment. We believe the motive had to do with money owed between the two from their betting activities, which had nothing to do with their employment.
Bui has no past criminal history. This comes after an incident roughly three years ago where a disgruntled employee killed nine of his coworkers before killing himself.
“We were rebuilding after the tragic incident of three years ago, and so for many people, this is reliving one of the worst experiences they’ve ever had in their life,” said County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, chair of the VTA board of directors, on Monday. “That’s why the mental health services, that’s why us wrapping our arms around each other is so important.”
