Light & Wonder is being taken to court by Aristocrat for intellectual property violation. Aristocrat is alleging that Light & Wonder’s Dragon Train series is based upon its Dragon Link series.

Aristocrat is claiming that Light & Wonder’s product contains similar audiovisual elements and game features. Furthermore, it was developed by a team that includes a number of former executives from Aristocrat such as Emma Charles and Lloyd Sefton.

Lawsuit Filed in Nevada

The lawsuit against Light & Wonder has been filed in the District Court of Nevada. It cites the “remarkable similarities” between the two products, and Aristocrat claims that it is “at least plausible – if not likely – that Ms Charles and/or Lloyd Sefton used Aristocrat’s intellectual property.”

Aristocrat believes its former executives have shared trade secrets, confidential information and copyrighted material while developing Dragon Train.

Moreover, Aristocrat is claiming that this is not the first instance of Light & Wonder using its intellectual property. It is believed that Light & Wonder used Dragon Link’s trademarked name with the game Dragon Unleashed Link after which Light & Wonder allegedly used elements from Dragon Link in the game Jewel of Dragon.

However, Aristocrat believes that Dragon Train goes further and replicates Dragon Link’s unique mechanics.

The allegations have been denied by Light & Wonder with the company calling the lawsuit “baseless”. It claims that Dragon Train is part of its diverse, innovative and competitive portfolio and that it will “vigorously” defend itself in court.
