The estimated figure is drastically lower than the $23.1 billion projected for last year’s Super Bowl. The decrease is largely attributed to the revised methodology used by the gambling association this year, which slightly differs from previous calculation methods.

The AGA’s earlier estimates rely on public surveys, including those on unregulated or illegal platforms and casual wagers. However, for Super Bowl LIX, the association is focusing solely on legal bets in US jurisdictions.

No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year’s record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal. This figure underscores the positive impact of the legal market—from protecting consumers to generating tax revenue that benefits communities across the country—while enhancing the game experience for all.

The AGA’s estimates are supported by data from GeoComply which shows a 20.2% increase in active sports betting accounts during the 20/4/25 NFL season. GeoComply is a company that specializes in verifying the location of internet gamblers.
