AGA Expects NFL 2024 Bets to Reach $35 Billion
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has released its annual projections for legal sports betting activity during the upcoming NFL season.
The NFL attracted nearly $26.7 billion in bets in 2023.

The AGA's estimates are informed by its research during the 2023 NFL season which revealed that American sports fans wagered nearly $26.7 billion on football.
Since the Supreme Court's landmark ruling in 2018, which struck down the federal ban on sports betting, more than 35 states have moved to legalize sports wagering. The latest states to launch regulated sports betting markets include Maine, Vermont, and North Carolina.
Furthermore, attitudes towards casino gaming and sports betting are evolving, with Americans recognizing them as acceptable and responsible options for leisure and entertainment, as per a recent study by AGA.
The survey found that three-quarters (75%) of American respondents believe the gaming industry is a responsible community partner, and the same percentage expressed support for a legally regulated sports betting market in their state.
90% (nine out of 10) sports bettors who have bet in the past year consider it crucial to bet with legal and regulated betting operators.

UMass Resarch Reveals Mixed Results
The AGA's findings partly align with the results of a recent survey conducted by the UMass School of Public Health and Health Sciences, which observed a rise in the number of monthly gamblers engaging in legal online sports betting.
However, the report also highlighted that the proportion of monthly gamblers participating in illegal betting activities remained the same.
The UMass study suggests that while legalization has not curtailed illegal betting in the jurisdiction, it has expanded the state's fiscal resources and provided a regulated environment for gamblers.
