$1.3 Billion Mega Millions Prize Still Unclaimed
On Tuesday, March 26, a lottery ticket purchaser in New Jersey won a $1.3B Mega Millions prize, marking the ninth-largest win in United States lottery history.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The jackpot had just climbed the over billion mark when it was hit. Now, as we enter October, the prize remains unclaimed. Most states require players to claim their prizes within six months, but the deadline in New Jersey is one year. The Mega Millions Consortium operates in 45 states and is available in Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They’ve asked for the winner to come forward.
The winner should contact New Jersey Lottery as soon as possible to begin the claim process.
The winner could be consulting with legal and financial professionals still and discussing whether they should have it paid out over 30 years or take the $537.5 million one-time cash option. The deadline for the winner to claim the prize is March 26, 2025. The winning ticket was sold at ShopRite grocery and liquor store in Neptune, which is located near Asbury Park. The winning ticket numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and a Mega Ball of 4.
The winner, should they come forward, can choose to remain anonymous per a bill passed in the Garden State in 2020. The one-time cash option of $537.5 million would be before a staggering 37% federal tax and a 10.75% state tax.

Mega Millions Redemption Timeline and Online Presence
Mega Millions is available in numerous locations, and the redemption timeframe varies greatly by location. For example, Iowa, New Mexico, and South Carolina winners must claim within 90 days, while Oregon allows 60 days.
There are 13 states, including New Jersey, that allow for a year: Delaware, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Nine states allow for online ticket sales for Mega Millions. Other states, like New Jersey, can utilize services like Jackpocket which purchase physical tickets on behalf of online players.
